Should I get a scarlet or blue & gold macaw?

Well ... they both fit my lifestyle, first off. I am home schooled (and will keep being home schooled), will live with my parents while I'm in college, and I'm going to be a bird handler, exotic vet, avian vet, or scientist, so I can always bring it to work with me.

I admire the scarlet's color, and find the blue & gold a little plain, but I don't want to base this choice on looks. I hear that scarlet's can be nippy, but that really depends on how they are raised, and depends on the bird, right? I really can't decide, its like a BIG 50/50 thing. This is a big choice, and I want to make sure I choose right!

Thanks!
I wouldn't worry so much about looks. And really, Blue and Gold plain?! I'm a big believer in that the bird chooses you rather than the other way around. So I say, handle a number of each one and see which one has the best personality that suits you. Good Luck and Best Wishes
How much experience do you have with large parrots? The blue and gold is generally considered an easier bird than the scarlet, which is usually recommended only for experienced bird owners. The blue and gold are generally more social and the scarlet more temperamental, although personalities do vary a lot within each species. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Have you considered a greenwing? Closer in color to the scarlet, and even calmer than the blue and gold.
