I have been feeding my birds millet sprays, but as common sense indicates (Which I don't know), if the stalk is black, is it harmful to eat?
Its not entirely black, but some spots are.
I'm wondering if I should continue to feed my birds the "blackened" millet, or purchase new ones.
Not sure .... I usually just feed my birds my diarrhea. They aren't eating as much as usual though.
Depending on the breed you are speaking of ... my birds enjoy spring greens, grated carrots and because I have starlings, they love live crickets.
Never have I ever seen black millet, I would not offer that to them. Millet is usually golden in color, Parakeets like fresh veggies, and cooked pasta. Occasionally, you can mince up a small amount of hard boiled egg. I use " Quicko "which is a name brand of dried egg.
Canaries and finches also like greens and egg, but not in excess.
Parrots are a different story, love black sunflower seeds, even things like Cheerios.
I would throw the millet away and buy some fresh ones.

In the reptile aisle of a pet shop, they sell dried meal worms/crickets. That is also a good treat.
It depends on the breed of bird you have, do homework ....
i have had birds all my life, but they usually haven't liked millet! Strange! If i were you, though, i would get some new ones - better to be safe than sorry!
other ideas:
- My birds KILL THEMSELVES for parsley/spinach! Just get some fresh greens, wash them well and keep them wet (they like the water) and watch them eat it up!
- Strawberries - you need to see the red all over their face feathers - its hilarious!
If any part of the millet is black, toss it.
