My single female bird has just laid an egg. I need to clean

Do i remove the egg and throw it away, or just take it out and clean the cage then put it back? Or should i just not clean the cage for a little while?

Also what can i feed her to replace her calcium and make her more comfortable? She's very protective of the egg and acting strangely, she won't come out of her cage at all.

Thanks.
You can go ahead and throw it if you want to.

As for calcium, get her some cuttlebone and/or a mineral block. Actually, she should have those in her cage at all times anyhow. She'll probably keep laying more (up to about 5 or 6), and you can either let her lay on them until she loses interest, or just throw them. No harm done either way.

edit, re: emma - if she's alone in there, there isn't a "much more likely" chance it's infertile, there is NO chance.

Also, standing on calcium can damage their feet. Not recommended.

another edit, re: dhmobil - No, standing on the eggs isn't bad. Someone said something about calcium sticks which are good for a bird to stand on, and they're not. It's like sand paper perch covers that some pet stores sell - they say they're good for keeping nails trim, but they're very bad for the feet.
That's regular for a bird .. you should:

1) Grab her out of the cage and put her in a different room

2) Clean her cage, but don't throw out her egg

3) Place her egg on the place where she laid it

4) Then you can let her back in her cage

(Dont do anything to her egg, or else she will feel insecure and more aggressive)
I have had many single female birds. I was always told that you should leave the bird, and the cage, alone for 7-10 days . They stated that if you remove the eggs too quickly, she will keep laying them, and it depletes her calcium. I did not know that standing on the eggs could be bad for the feet. Google it. There is alot of info on bird sites I've been to
I'd like to add in addition to the previous answers that you can buy fake replacement eggs, so you don't have to deal with an egg that goes bad or breaks. Generally most birds fall for it if they don't see you doing the switch.
Make an omelet?
