My female parakeet has been screaming when I pick it up, ever since I got it 3 years ago. Lately, she has been locking up her legs and seems lifeless after she screams when I pick her up. Her heart beats fast as well, but when I put her down, she goes back to normal and her heart goes back to normal. This only occurs when I hold her. If I put her on my shoulder, she acts normal. My other parakeets do not do this. Anybody have any idea what is causing this condition?
i have five female and 2 boy parakeets. females will be more mean and scared than the males. i have two females that will scream at me. some birds do not like to be held they would rather stay in the cage with all the other birds. i got one of my females to calm down when i hold her but it took me about a year to get her used to being held. the other female still likes to not be touched and stay in her cage. just keep on holding her and hoapfully eventually she will get used to you holding her. hope this helps
its not a condition, it's fear. she is traumatized with something .. just don't hold her. dont just grab her like that, you'd freak out too. i had a parakeet like that and we couldnt really hold him cause he was truly terrified of us for whatever reason.
