I have 4 love birds in a big cage. I noticed yesterday 4 eggs at the bottom of the cage and the mothers sits on them most of the day. How mNy days until they are born.? And, will the other birds kill the babies ? Should I put them separate? Should I even touch them to move them some where else.? ..... After they are born, what I need to feed them? Special care? Thanks
3 weeks (21 days) is average. But it partly depends on incubation habits of the parents, can be a few more or less days. Also I have heard from friends male love birds tend to eat the eggs and this happend to my friend two years ago and after I researched about it and it was true and not all of them do.If you see the mother trying to be over protetive such as pecking the others I will then suggest separate them. And dont touch the egg as many say the mother bird will feel the sense and neglect the egg.
3 weeks is about average, remove the eggs if they don't hatch after 4 weeks this way they may lay more and actually hatch, also Id suggest to buy a nesting box for the future, if you know the two that are breeding then separate them from the others, I would definitely move them now and give the mama lots of paper to nest with. if you separate them the chance that the dad or other birds wont harm the babies. The whole Sense thing is not true Ive never had an issue with Love Birds deserting their eggs, so you can move them, I hand feed and let the mother feed all the way from one day up. I would suggest to get an egg supplement from the pet store and mix it in with their food, trust me it will help. If you are going to hand raise them there is A lot to buy and the pet store should be able to help you get the correct supplies to hand feed them or you could do as I do and let the parents feed them and you feed them and all you need is formula from the pet store. Also females can lay eggs that are not fertile and wont ever hatch so watch out for the mating and that way you will know for shure, good luck and HAVE FUN!!!
i know the pet shops have all the answers for you but right now just keep the eggs warm
make a scramble
