I found some type of song bird outside while i was at work. Looks like it has a broken wing and leg because it can't stand or flap its wings. I called every vet/animal rescue where i live and noone wants it. They said they'd put it down but thats it. I don't wants this to happen because it looks healthy and its not suffering. I gave water already but im not sure how to feed it. Currently i have it in a large milk crate with soft padding at the bottom. I know about bird care since i own a small parrot but i dont know how to treat her. what should i do??
The best way to handle the wing right now is to wrap it against the body with guaze to stabilize the bird. Don't try to straighten it unless it's in a near straight position, otherwise, let the bird's wing heal back into position on it's own over time. Also, wrap the leg with something rigid, a stick or block and then wrap it too. Look up 'Rescue Remedy' at a local health food store, it will calm the bird a little. I wish you luck and I'm sorry to hear that the animal rescues in your district won ' t help.?
I would recommend either doing as the other answerers recommended or posting an ad on Craigslist saying you've found a wild bird and want to find someone to rehab it. There are a lot of people out there with plenty of experience who do this as a hobby, surprisingly. I've actually seen ads on Craigslist asking for birds to be rehabbed by the poster. If I lived anywhere near you (and not in a university dorm) I would take it, as I have just taken a bird first aid class as part of my raptor club. Good for you for taking it in, though.:)
Different birds eat different types of seeds and bugs so taking care of them can be VERY difficult. I would look online for the closest bird rescues to you and even if they are not close to you start contacting them. They may be able to help you get in contact with people closer to you. I have saved 2 or 3 different birds in different states and every time I had a VERY hard time finding bird rescues, so I just contacted any I could find and they helped me get in touch with local people that could help.
I'm not sure about your specific situation, but I can tell you about a similar one I experienced: A few years ago, my dad found a dove with a broken wing. He had been a medic in the navy, so he took his supplies and bandaged the wing in place. He fed it wild bird seed and kept it in an extra terrarium we had (probably with just blankets or towels on the bottom), since we also had snakes at the time. Anyway, after a couple months or so (I'm not sure how long), the bird's wing healed and we were able to release it back on base where my dad had found it, and it flew away just fine.

So, long story short: I would recommend feeding it wild bird seed, since it is an adult and can eat that, and bandaging the wing - although that might need to be done by someone with some type of medical training ...
Good luck, and thanks for taking that bird in. A lot of people would've just left it, and the bird probably couldn't last long in its state.
