Can I own a bird with an allergy to them?

I have sneezing fits and itchy eyes when I sleep on feather-filled pillows. I owned many birds as a child but recently discovered from a skin allergy test that I'm very allergic. I know people that have dog/cat allergies, and still own them. What do they do to stop the allergic reactions? Is there a way for me to do the same thing for my feather allergy? I really miss having a bird in the house.
There are many allergy medications that you could take but I think that allergy shots are more effective and you don't need to take them as often. It may not completely relieve your allergy but it could help. Ask a doctor and they will be able to help you much more effectively and give you resources.
I so sympathise with you!! I have many allergies, mostly to animals. That doesn't stop me petting them or cuddling them. If you had birds outside, you should be fine. Don't rub your eyes afterwards. If you've had birds as a child and nothing happened, I don't think anything would be wrong with it.
