yay! the baby budgies are finally fledged and out of the nest box. there are 4 of them and i need info on how big a cage should be for 6 + budgies. graceolyn is on her second clutch so i think i need to upgrade the size of their cage soon. the woman at the pet store said that the cage would hold between 8-12 budgies but if i DO have that many birds, they wouldn't have room to fly around ... don't the cages need to be wider rather than taller? i read that if the cages are taller that the bird wouldn't get the exercises it needs or something though i take them out and let them fly around for an hour each day. thank you for all the help so far!

I have got seven budgies and I keep them in a cage similar cage to the link below and say something like that would be appropriate.

I think you should get a wider cage rather than a longer cage because I own two parrot/parakeet-like birds (Bourke's parrots) and I want to get them them a wider cage because their's is tall and they look like they have a hard time flying. I have 5 birds in all and they all live in the same cage, approximately 3 feet by 2.5 feet and about 4 feet tall. I'm not sure, but the side that I think is 2.5 feet can actually just perfectly fit one opened up news paper. The width, I think is right though. And the height. I WOULD get the parakeet-ish birds a wider cage when I find one. Maybe 5 feet by 2 feet for 6 of them, and 2-3 feet tall?
