how to get my cockatiel to be quiet, without bothering him.?

i have a cockatiel (parrot), and he sometimes starts chirping, and would chirp forever unless i play with him a little, but im really busy these days, and cant really play with him, and my parents are getting really annoyed!! so wats a way i can quiet him down ...
Hi. Cockatiels are, like all parrots, very social birds ... in the wild they live in huge flocks and are constantly interacting with their mates and flock members. A mate would be your best option - although they will still "talk" among themselves, the bird will not engage in the attention-getting chirping that you mention. It is also better for the bird's overall quality of life to have a mate or companion, they do not do well alone.

Please check my article on Cockatiel Natural History at http://blogs.thatpetplace.com/thatbirdbl ... for more info and feel free to post further questions there.

Good luck and enjoy, Frank
Clo Clo's answer is completely wrong. You shouldn't cover a bird to quiet them down. If you did what she said, you would be reinforcing the bird in a negative way. You should play with them, give them more toys, of if they seek a mate, give them one!:)
put a blanket over this cage when we needs to be quiet, but dont expect him to be quiet all day. he needs to have time out and about to sing and play.

also play him some soft music:)
cover his cage with a blanket this works for all my birds
