Well, studies show that 30% of the time birds spend flying they are doing it for fun.
Birds are very social animals and spend a lot of their time socializing. They also look for food and eat food. A flock of macaws can easily turn a tree heavy with fruit to a completely barren plant in a matter of hours. After that, they move on.
Parent birds also spend a majority of the time caring for their young. When a family of birds is left alone, the chicks develop strong bonds with their parents but are huge time-wasters for them. It's worse than being a human and having a child . At least we don't have to fly miles for food sources for our children.
