Why arnt my chickens laying?

I started with 2 cockerels and five hens the hens laid everyday 4 to 5 eggs

we then incubated our own eggs and now have over 40 chickens of varying ages with at least 20 of laying age BUT since one hen went broody and hatched 2 chicks we have had no eggs laid for over 2 months.

Ive checked for illness but found nothing

We have tried layers food and all the usual stuff

They have loads of land and shade under fig and olive trees lots of laying boxes in coops and other areas

Now we live in Greece but the weather has become very agreeable to chickens in the last six weeks

Can anyone help as we are fed up of supermarket eggs with no taste after having such good eggs before

Thank you

John
When you say agreeable is it very hot? Sometimes if its too hot they go off laying. Are they moulting their feathers? Hens go off laying when they are moulting and start again once the moult is finished. How old are the hens? As they get older they lay eggs less frequently I'm afraid. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Don't give them corn as this can create problems with them putting fat down around their internal organs and pullets can have problems laying.

They should be on layers food all the time with grit and occasionally some oyster-shell grit although I don't give ours this often as the layers food has added calcium. In additions to pellets give them household scraps like crumbled up bread, cakes, pastry and especially greens like left over cooked (cooled) cabbage and broccoli, boiled potato peelings, apples etc etc. They also need grass, chickens love eating grass.

They could be laying somewhere you haven't noticed? Maybe there is a huge stash of eggs in a secret place you haven't found or maybe crows or other birds are stealing the eggs. This happens to me the crows actually go in our chicken shed and fly off with eggs.

They sound like they live an idyllic life, I would threaten with the oven see if that makes them buck their ideas up!!
I'm not quite sure as I too have chickens but haven't had them for very long. Could be that she may not want any more children? LoL .... I got my chickens from MyPetChicken.com. You may want to try asking them. They know everything there is to know about chickens and/or you may find your answer on their website in the FAQs.
My chickens didn't lay eggs for about 5months because they have to build up calcium and protien reserves. Try feeding them some broken egg shells with their diet and maybe some crickets or beetles. Then you have to wait. good luck.
Are you sure they are not laying different places rather then the laying boxes.
