What do I need to know about a Parakeet?

I am thinking of buying a parakeet this Friday, but I have NO IDEA how to take care of it. I am planning on buying two, so it won't be lonely while I'm at school.

I need to know:

-What kind of food should I get?

-Should I get one, or two?

-What size should the cage be?

-Do I need to give it a bath? (I know, weird, but my dad said I will have to bathe it or something)

-Should I let it out of his cage, and what if he flies away?

Please answer these questions, and give me as much information as possible! Thanks!
Only get one parakeet. Get the biggest cage you can afford. Attach a bird bath to the door of the cage or put one on the bottom of its cage, and he'll take one when he wants to. Birds are naturally clean animals and really don't need to be physically given a bath. I wouldn't let it out of the cage without clipping the wings first, and make sure you are in a room with both the door and windows shut.

Do a lot of research before buying specially tips on buying a parakeet/budgie also if you plan to buy from a pet store pay several visit first to the pet store to evaluate the bird you like dont be in hurry to get one, theres a lot to know, you might be suprised on what you might find out theres always the world wide web for your convenience.
You talk to an animal to get the correct Information and a pet store
Just get one bird. If you get two, they will bond with each other, and so why do they need you?

Standard parakeet food is a complete food for your new pet, but you can augment that with appropriate bird treat sticks and especially millet sprays.

Don't get a bottom of the line cage. My newest bird is a rescue bird from the local shelter. I got him a new cage that measures 21X16X10, with heavy duty wire. It cost about $ 35 at Petco. It's a very nice cage .

I wouldn't worry about a bath for a while. Birds are very sensitive to cold, and a chilled bird can catch cold easily. Maybe on a warm summer day, with a hand held mister in the shower in a closed bathroom ...

Absolutely your bird should have time outside his cage. I take my new bird into a small room, shut the door, and let him out. He enjoys flying around the room, but after a few days of work he readily got used to getting on my finger and rode my hand out of the cage. A technique I have often used is to dismantle the cage around the bird, and then he ends up going to you and getting on your hand or finger. If you only let your bird out while in a secure room he can't fly away. You can also ask a vet or an experienced bird owner or pet shop person to show you how to trim the bird's wings. It doesn't hurt the bird and often helps in the taming process .

Two things I want to add: Don't rush things with your bird. If you buy one and get him home, set up his cage and leave him alone for a day or so. Walk by the cage often, talk to it constantly, but don't rush into trying to get the bird to sit on your finger. Try the steps I've suggested and I'm confident you'll have good success making your new pet into a real friend. Second item: Be careful where you put your bird's cage. Parakeets like their cages up relatively high, so they can see what's going on. Make sure it's not in a draft. Birds like to have movement in the room, people, other pets, etc, and they like music or sound like the radio or TV playing. Don't isolate your bird in a quiet room by himself. If 'he's a real part of your family he will be a lot happier.
Q: What kind of food should I get ? A: I would research on that.

Q: Should I get one, or two? A: One, if you get two, they will bond with each other, whereas if you get one, he/she will bond to you.

Q: What size should the cage be? A: As big as you can afford! If it says "parakeet cage" it's most likely too small. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Q: Do I need to give it a bath? (I know, weird, but my dad said I will have to bathe it or something) A: Put a bowl (small) in the cage, they will do it themselves, like a birdbath for wild birds.

Q: Should I let it out of his cage, and what if he flies away? A: You can bring it out of it's cage with unclipped wings if the room is "bird proof" which means there are no harmful objects around the room . If you don't want it flying around, clip it's wings if you would like to bring it out.

Hope I helped!
If you get two, they won't bond with you, they'll bond with each other.

Parakeet food, you'll see it in the store, there are also veggie treats, seed treats, the pet shop will help you.
