What is the name of the species of small quail that people often mix with fiches and budgies the female is brown but the mail has a bit of greyish-blue with makings around the throat It is a very small species of quail does anyone know what kind it is?
Button Quail, also called Chinese Painted Quail
The most common ones in Australia are button quail, also known as King quail or chinese painted quail. They're from Asia, Africa & Australia & the smallest quail.
They can come in all colours. The grey colour is a popular colour to buy. Females also come in grey. They don't have 'bibs', male have 'bibs'. Females are slightly larger than males but some males can be a littler larger too.
You usually need 3-4 females to 1 male. Although I have 1 male that will only accept 1 female & is extremely cruel to the other females, all now separated & living happy .... Some males & females can be extremely aggressive, nothing you can really do about that except keep them away from those it is bullying.
