Hi, I am going to get my first bird and wanna do everything in it's favor. I am putting him near my kitchen area (my living room, but my living room leads into the kitchen. No way I can Block it off). I clean the kitchen every night. And I do not want to kill the poor bird. So What can I use to clean my kitchen with that is bird safe?. Would that product green work be bidie safe? I'm not sure. Does anybody know what products in the super markets I would be able to buy that are birdie safe (or pet stores)? I can't really find much on the subject. So I really would like to hear you answers. Thanks yahoo viewers. You guys help allot.
sincerely,
dejavu
Here are some links that will help. It's a good idea to print out the information for future reference. I keep this kind of thing in a notebook that I call my homemade bird bible. These lists cover more than just cleaners.

The vinegar/water is safe. Simple Green is also considered safe and I do use it but just to be safer, I dilute it 50/50 with water and then make sure I have rinsed it well is I use it on the cage or anywhere my birds might put their beaks. There is an excellent product called Poop-Off. It does a great job but it also is pretty pricey. I keep some of it around for any really difficult areas on my cages but due to price, I ' m pretty sparing with it as well and use the other solutions as much as possible. Good for you that you know to worry about these things in advance. All birds should be so lucky.
I use Simple Green-safe and all natural . Its available in some grocery stores, and in most hardware stores. It comes super concentrated, so you have to dilute it anywhere from 1:10 to 1:50. I do about 1:20 for normal use-less for heavy duty. Don't get imitations, they aren't as good.
Great that you are checking. Make sure you know all the things that are harmful - such as Teflon items (pans, coffeemakers with hotplate, irons) - can be deadly to birds. Much info can be found at www.birdsafe.com

As far as a cleaner, Oxyfresh is really the most accepted by bird folks:

Just use some cleaning grade vinegar, which u can get from any supermarket, its good at disinfecting, its as green as you can get and safe for your bird as well. Just mix it with sum hot water or use by itself.
