We have a pair of conures, a green cheek and a pineapple sided. The green cheek always screams, with the pineapple sometimes joining in. I just moved in with my dad about 6 months ago and these birds are driving me CRAZY. They used to be in my room, but they would continue to screech for up to an hour after the lights went out (even when they're covered up). They would also screech randomly in the middle of the night, and then stop. I finally lost it and moved them out into the family room. We live in a rather small house, so it's hard to place them.
I want to re-home these birds. I love them, but all they do is bite, poop, and make noise. However, my dad is totally against the idea even though he is also annoyed by the birds.
If you cover them up, it doesn't help. If you let them out of their cage, it doesn't help. Sometimes they're quiet but when they do chirp we can never figure out why. We can't eat in front of the birds or anything, or they'll continue to screech non stop.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com How do I train these birds to stop screeching and be able to stay in their cage while we eat? Please help before they totally drive me insannee):
This is what conures do. If you re-home them please be sure any potential owners know about this trait of the breed. You must not have realized it. You can't train them not to vocalize. Or let me put it this way, if you come up wa humane way of quieting conures you will be a very wealthy person.
Maybe your Dad is like me --- once I take on the responsibility of a pet, esp a difficult one, it's just wrong to foist the prob onto someone else. The right thing to do would be to try and find a home w an experienced conure owner, possibly someone who has a breeding setup. Do a web search for an area bird club. Maybe your vet knows another bird person who would be interested.
I wouldn't buy someone elses conures. They would have to pay me to take them (and I love conures). But they scream, on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on. Well you know.

I feel for you, really I do. Been there, done that, even went back for more. You will be able to re-home them, just do the right thing. It'll make Dad proud. Go to the pharmacy and get some earplugs, I find them to be helpful.
I'm sorry, but conures are screamers/screechers by nature. It's what they do. You can sell them with food and cage and everything. It will bring back peace to the household - I know because I had to do that once a long time ago. It was worth it, believe me.
If you cant sell them or give them a way, you might want want to get them lots of toys for distraction this way they may tire out all their energy in the morning and have a peacefull night.
