I really want a parakeet but my mom thinks they're really noisy!!! What do you think?
I've had parakeets almost all my life and I have them because I love their chatter! Yes, they are noisy and the noiser the house, the noisier they are, but they aren't loud screamers like a lot in the parrot family.
One parakeet isn't usually very noisy because it doesn't have other flock mates to call and talk to . However, the more parakeets you have, the noisier your household will be. I currently have 5 parakeets, and two of them in particular are noisy and chirp loudly. If all five of them are at it, they cause quite a commotion! Some parakeets are louder than others. They are like people in that some people have louder voices and some parakeets chirp louder than others. You should be fine with only one parakeet, but be more careful of the noise level if you buy two of them. One thing for sure, they are nowhere near as noisy as most other pet birds, including cockatiels, lovebirds, conures, parrots, or even canaries.

Like the user above me said, they will be less noisy alone. If you want a singer, get a male canary. If you want a soothing noise, get a dove. Parakeets usually chirp all day, which some may find annoying.
