I want to purchase some bands for my cockatiel babies that are about to hatch in a few more weeks. I have looked at some websites, but am a little confused on exactly what the numbers are on the band.
This website says: COCKATIEL BANDETTS-$ 4.20/String of 10 (all same color and consecutive numbers)
Ok, what are the numbers. The picture shows like 33, 64, etc ... so I have no idea what I need to put on this band. I can't find anything on the web telling me. I have read into pretty much everything and I'm having such trouble with this. I even read the NCS website and that was confusing. The order form just lists the colors and then have blank spots for me to fill in ... please help. Also what is better for the bird plastic or aluminum.
Thanks:)
Unless you are getting NCS bands it doesn't really matter what you put on the band. It is just to let you ID the birds. NCS bands are different in that they allow for easy identification of the breeder ( via the NCS registered band code) year of bird (based on color) and bird (based on constitutive band numbers)

Do not use plastic bands on a hookbill like the first poster suggested. Plastic bands are intended for use on softbills like finches. Plastic bands are easily chewed off by hookbills making them not only useless but a hazard if they are swallowed.
Ok , to start with, I'd use plastic, the bird/s may be allergic to aluminum.
The reason for numbering is so you can keep records, if something particular happens with one bird you can document it using its number for identification.
The adult gets a number then the babies get her number with a letter, understand? Take for example, the mom is 24 and the babies are a, bc and d.
On the documentation you would say # 24b went to vet for running eyes, # 24d showed aggression towards siblings. Also, color coding is used for multiples. You could use red (or whatever color you like) for the first set of babies, her next ones a different color, trust me, when they all become adults you'll have a hard time remembering which was born first.
