I have never seen a Chicken in the water,, have you?
No they can't. Chickens can, and do drown in water situations. A fellow whom bought one of my hens told me that a stray cat chased her into a pond and she drowned. Strangely though I do have chickens that like water. My silkies (a breed of chickens with fur, instead of feathers, my picture is a silkie) love water. I have to hold up my buff silkie rooster every time I give him a bath as he loves to lay in it, and stick his whole face in. Silkies are pretty strange birds though. lol.
Best wishes,

A chicken lacks webbed feet, so forward propulsion is very poor. Chicken's feathers have far less oil based waterproofing than waterfowl. Even the shape of a chicken's body is poorly suited for swimming. At best a chicken could flap it's wings in a desperate "mad dash" to the closest stream bank.
I don't think so, only seen one in a stewing pot. sorry!
