Where do you keep quail? Inside or out. What conditions do they like? Generally any facts about quail. What is the best breed of quail??
Chickens are more popular than quail simply because they live longer and lay bigger eggs. Quail eggs are small and fiddly and the birds usually live just 2 years or so.
I have Japanese quail and they have to be kept indoors in the winter or at least out of the cold which basically means indoors in the Irish climate. The males fight so you can only have 1 male with a few females. The females fight sometimes as well, I had 2 females attack each other and one pecked the other ones eye out, it was so sad I had to euthanize her.
I just have the 1 male Japanese quail now and he lives in an outside aviary with my trio of Golden Pheasants, he's quite happy and I'm not going to buy a mate for him he'll just live his life out where he is.
there are as many breeds of quail as there are breeds of dogs lol - each with its own needs. from miniature to large types - you need to do some internet research.
