What house hold chemicals are bad for parakeets to be around

Hi yahoo.I 'm getting my first bird that's a parakeet, and I decided to put it in my living room, but the living room is right next to the OPEN kithchen area. The living room has an open area that goes into the kitchen . There Is no possible way for me to "block" off the kithchen so regardless she's going to go in our kitchen. I clean the kitchen every night and I'm scard off what the chemicals will do to her. What canI do to keep myself from killing the bird. Help me please!!! I can't find the info any where. So you guys are my last chance. I guess you could say your info could be the difference between life and death. Help me if you can. I'm mainly talking to the parakeet owners by the way. Thanx for you time yahoo viewers
The same things that are toxic to larger parrots will be toxic to your parakeet. Throw away all your teflon pans, be aware also that teflon can be in waffle makers and crock pots etc. Teflon is toxic to birds (and bad for you too)

Here is a list for you

Having a bird is a lifestyle change for sure. Try using natural cleaning products like vinegar instead of chemicals. Also no more fabreeze, air fresheners, candles etc.
If you clean the kitchen daily, it will help to get a portable bird cage so you can move it to another room while you clean. Products like Windex can be harmful to your bird so be sure to clean the products off completely and/or let the room air out so it wont intoxicate the parakeet. If you use baking soda to clean, then that should be fine. When cleaning the birdcage, use products suggested by the pet store or organic products, some non-toxic labels may still be harmful to your pet. Hope this helped!
Be very careful of what and how much you use of anything around your bird. No teflon pans or anything containing teflon at all. No self cleaning ovens, no aerosol sprays or scented candles, bleach> Cooking fumes. I would move bird to another room when cooking or cleaning . All birds are very sensitive to any chemicals that are used due to their air sacs. Get a good book and read up on this. Good luck. I keep my birds behind closed doors when I cook and clean. Better safe than sorry.
You can clean your kitchen with vinegar and water. It is safe and will not hurt the parakeet. Their lungs are very sensitive to chemicals so I would just use natural products around the bird.
baisically any cleaning cemical thats strong can kill your bird even air fresheners and polish anything thats got a strong smell to it.
