How do you tell the difference between male and female quail? When they are chicks and adults
Depending on what species.
Chines Painted, the males have a white bit in all mutations.the females are either a drab brown but mutations of either the hens do not have the bib.
Japanese the males usually carry white round their heads the females are as other mainly a drab brown/black and do not carry white.
Bob white the male carries a white mask the females are brown.
It all depends on which species you are referring too.
The chinese painted male quail have a white bib under their chin which the females don't have. The females are slightly larger than the males with a plumper body.
