Lovebird conection tips?
i had my birds since i was born. it was my newborn baby gift. my dad bought them the day i was born. there always scared and i have never pet them before! how can i make them trust me! i play with them everyday day and feed then.
Lovebirds can only live up to 12-13 years, so you must be that age, right? If you have 2 or more lovebirds, they may never bond to you or like you. They bond to each other and ignore the owner. I guess they're just going to be watching birds... sorry!
Stacy- That is all completely false. Lovebirds can live to be as old as 20 years, with the average being between 12-15. It is the same for most small sized Parrots. The same goes for Lovebirds in pairs being unable to bond to a human.

Once a Lovebird has bonded, it can be difficult to create another strong bond... but it is NOT impossible. You'll want to start out by making sure your hands are in the cage daily! Change water dishes, food dishes, re-organize toys, clean the cage, ETC. This will get them used to having your hands in their cage. You'll also want to make sure their cage is somewhere you often spend time, so they are use to seeing you. The next step is to relate your hands to treat! You'll want to get something like millet, and offer it from your hands daily. Start with a rather large stem of millet, and slowly start reducing it until you have them taking a small piece from the palm of your hand. This can take up to a few weeks, so move nice and slow. Once they are comfortable with your hands, you can work on things like asking them to step up with treats.

It will take a ton of time and commitment, but in the end it will be completely worth it. One of my female Lovebirds was bonded to her sibling for quite some time before I was able to bring her home. She now has a mate, and still has a very strong bond with me. She whistles to me, steps up, gives kisses, and is an amazing bird.

Good luck :)!
