Ok, about a month ago i went to the local pet store. It is a small pet store owned by a man and his father. I bought a male and female zebra finch. I am sure there is a male and female, absolutely positive, no doubt. The cage is pretty big, large enough for me to even sit in it on my hands and knees. They have a nest box (it hangs on the outside of the cage). They drink out of a hanging water bottle, and have many different perches. They have food, grit and spray millet at all times. They also have a cuddle bone. I offer egg food and fresh veggies as a snack every couple days. I also have a list of questions to ask.

1. How many hours of light should they have daily?
2. How can i encourage breeding?
3. Can a house a society and/or gouldian finch with them? (my uncle is a breeder)
4. Any tips or any information about the birds?

Most pet shops carry them. They also build their own nest, so you provide nesting material

Okay. Well, since birds are usually outside, let them have the sunlight, for however long
the sun is up. Make sure not to leave lights on late at night where the birds are though, if your worried. To encourage breeding... add some Protien Eggfood to their diet. It's a little extra calcium to help build strong eggshells and such. It's good for them anyway. Thats the only real way you can induce breeding, for they have minds of there own.. Put a nest in the cage, you can buy one from Fleet Farm-or Farm and Fleet, a cheap straw one-that are actually sturdy and a good buy. Add some string and paper, while putting most on the bottom/sides of the cage so the birds can build themselves a nest. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
And yes, you can add lots of types of finches. I know Goulian finches are so incredibly pretty.. :)
Society finches are actually known to be the bird..um. The bird that is most commonly added with
other finches? I know with Finches that it's primarily a big thing to have an odd number of finches. I don't really know why, but I've read it on many sites.
I don't think you'll get babies by Christmas, but it's worth a try. If your really aiming to get babies, just make sure you know absolutley everything about breeding finches. They are quite noisy and cute though! _the chicks_
Mmmkay. What else.. Oh. I know that lots of times the female will produce unfertile eggs, so be watching on how many she lays, because too many can mean calcium defficiancy--this is where the Eggfood comes in.
