COCKATIEL LOST IN THE SNOW?
My poor little cockatiel flew away this afternoon, we have had snow for days now, it is now midnight, we spent hours looking for him and I'm scared he won't survive. We also live near the coast and I am worried that the seagulls may have had him as a snack. I have been playing recordings of his call outside but there is no sign of him. I have already put posters up around the area and don't know what else to do :(
answer: I have seen pet birds survive cold temps if they can find shelter, food and water. I know of a case of a Tiel who survived a month in a harsh New Jersey February before finally being captured. Also, I know of a case of an Amazon Parrot who survived the snowest winter on record in Philadelphia (he was sighted a good six months through last winter) before finally being captured in May. So don't give up hope. Here are the top things that you can do to get your bird back.

911 ParrotAlert (
http://911parrotalert.com) I'm so sorry. I really wish you could save him. But snow is harsh. I know you won't like to hear it, but maybe all you really need to do is to wait. People will read posters, and keep on a lookout. It's all you can really do. Pray and hope. I feel so bad :( I really do hope you find him, but if you want the truth, I'd say, you can only pray and hope, nothing more you can do. Don't spend sleepless hours trying to find him. A cockatiel can get far in little time. Maybe think about another cockatiel... but DON'T give up hope.
well sorry that sucks but im pretty sure its gone for good. I had one fly away years ago, he circled for a while but never came back. It was warm out when mine flew off....yours is going to die soon if it isn't found. They are tropical birds.
Post an ad on Craigslist saying "LOST COCKATIEL". Also, ask any shelters if they have seen him, and give them a picture of him and your phone number, so if he does turn up, they can call you. :)
He's done. I'm sorry, but cockatiels don't do well on cold days and need to be kept warm. I would get a new bird and keep his wings clipped.
Look online at craiglist or something.

Go to a shelter and ask if they have heard anything.
