How do i determine the sex of my cockatiels?
Im 12 and im getting a big avairy for my birthday i want to breed cockateils, but 1 problem i dont know how to determine the sex yet.Any advice off expirienced breeders would be great! thanks! Also i already breed doves got my first batch of chicks out of the nest 3 weeks ago they already have got a nest and when i checked thisafternoon a egg was hatching.I also have got a nice pair of cockatiels with eggs that are 2 weeks old.
lift it up
squeeze their bottom, but i recommend you asking a specialist to do so
First the color of your birds can help to determine sex.
This is the simplest way, all Cockatiels ,up til they reach 6=8 months carry spots under their wings and bars on their tails, when they moult , C*ck birds loose these features but Hens retain them, in some color mutation these features are hard to see for the novice breeder,
Normals Lutino;s Cinnamon's, are easy to identify most Pied variations are also easy, but there are some which are more difficult.
As you already have a breeding pair, then look for these features on them and you will see what I mean.
Your eggs should hatch normally between 21-24 days but this must be taken from the last egg laid.
You need to prepare now for their hatching by starting to feed the parents on soaked sprouting seed , feed this a.s.a.p. and till the young are feeding themselves, pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Soaked sprouting seed is quite easy to prepare, take some of your seed ,soak, in warm water overnight, drain ,rinse, place some where warm till it sprouts (2-3 days) rinse and feed, you can also add Mung beans, Hemp, Sunflower. when you soak these.
Also give them green veg such as Broccoli, Kale, Sprouts, Sweet Corn Cob.FruiT, such as Apple. Pear, these are all excellent for rearing young birds, don't forget Cuttle bone.
Finally try to buy your birds direct from a good breeder , who will show you how to sex and will only give you a true pair.
and there is no need for D.N.A. testing.
