Why isn't my parakeet laying eggs?
I have a pair of 'keets that are between 15 & 18 months old. They aren't related and we are sure that one is a male & one is a female. My husband and I have both seen them mate, but the female has never laid an egg. They have an open nest box. We had a closed nest box in with them for 3 or 4 months but they refused to use it.

They seem to be happy, in good health, & they get along very well. We don't handle them frequently, but they don't mind being handled.

Any ideas?
because its a boy parrot and they can only give live birth
They may still be a bit young. The older they are, the better parents they may turn out to be. Don't try to rush nature. Just make sure they are both on an excellent breeding diet with lots of fresh fruits, veggies, leafy greens and all the other safe people foods. Also make sure there is always a cuttle bone available and anything else she will eat that will add calcium to her diet. That is critical if and when she does decide to lay. If she runs short of calcium, her eggs will be too soft, she won't be able to pass them and she will be egg bound. That is life threatening. Just keep them happy and healthy and they will know when the time is right.
