Can my cockatiel have a friend?
my bird is male and he is a little older, (we don't know the age for sure) but we want to get him another male friend.
obviously the new bird would be younger than mine, but will they still get along?
answer: This is not a good idea. Your older tiel is going to harass the new cockatiel since he is used to having his cage as his own. Do expect territorial uses when you put the new one in his cage.
Best idea is to buy yourself a second cage and it with the new cockatiel next to your current cage.
Introduce them slowly, by leaving both cages next to each other for at least 30 days so that they can get use to each other. Slowly, put them together for a few hours , but keep them separate until you feel they will get along together.
Hopefully, they will begin to get along with each other and your older one will accept the new one within his cage.

i have two female birds. we got one first, then the other. we assumed they would be fine in one cage but they fought a lot so we had to buy another cage for one of them. i don't know if males are different or if they could get along. i would try putting them in the same cage but if they fight then you can just buy another cage for one.
I would buy a second cage that is much larger and introduce them both to the cage at the same that was neither of them has established it as their territory yet so there shouldn't be a territory issue.
It is probably not the best thing to put two males together. Perhaps a female would work quite fine.
