How Do You Tell A Male Parakeet From A Female?
I was told by my grandmother that male parakeets have blue ceres and females have brown or pink ceres. When I looked it up, the sites said males have either blue ceres or blue/pink ceres, while the females are brown or white. Some sites say completely different things, so now I'm confused.
Also, I asked my dad if he would take the keets to the vet so that I can see what their gender is, but he doesn't want to spend money on "something so stupid".
Some sites say that it depends on the coloration of the birds, so I am going to post a description below. The description also has each birds cere colors.
I was also wondering if I could study their behavior to help understand their gender. What should I look for? So far, Sky is more of a bully. She pecks at Calypso when eating, and she seems to bite more often. But she also helps Calypso groom and they latch beaks sometimes. Calypso is less aggressive.

Show budgie breeder. have 400 show budgies and currently 45 pairs breeding.
Blue is male while pink or pink/blue is female.
I have noticed some of thise websites to be confussing to but after living with them for years you catch on. The male parakeets do tend to have a purple or dark blue, while the females have a pink/white cere. When in breeding or molting, the female cere can turn brown and crusty . What can be confusing is age ... their ceres tend to change colors when they are young so its hard to tell what gender they are! Many times they start of light pink and turn purple, but than can change to any color from there ... haha because of this some of the names I gave my parakeets are gender wrong. Also, the feet color acually ave nothing to do wit gender, that is just hereditary. As far as the way they act, the females will indeed tend to be the dominant one and pushy and bite more. The males tend to chirp more and also feed te female, making more trips to the feeder. Its sounds like your birds like eachother by their grooming and locking of beaks. I hope I cleared up any confusion and by their description you parakeets sound lovely! * LIVE * * LAUGH * * CHIRP *
