Hen budgie wont come out of nest box?
she has laid a clutch of eggs already and id say some of them could be fertile cus she has a mate and they have mated. But i havnt been able to check on them very much because the hen hardly ever comes out of the nest box and when she does i go in the room to have a check and she sees me and goes back in. probably the last time i checked them was about 3 days ago and i only got a glimpse because she went back in straight away. the concave was some what over flowing:/well thats what i saw from like 2 seconds of looking but i did have a good look about 5 days ago and saw 6 eggs anyways ive tried tapping on the nest box but she still doesnt come out and i dont want to lift her off them cuz im scared that she will bite me and then my hand would react and smash the eggs:/so how can i get her off the eggs. Ive also wanted to candle them but havnt got a chance to. any help?
answer: The fact is eggs and nests must be checked. Being sooky about being bitten isnt going to help. If she wont move off the eggs when you tap on the box, then go in anyway .............. put your hand in back of hand uppermost. ........ if you do that and go under her you can lift her on the back of your hand. Mostly at that stage she will not like it and will get out of the nestbox. Doing it this way enables you to lift her off the eggs and look under your hand to check the eggs. Prepare for a bite and if you do get bitten dont react. If you dont then its a bonus. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Make sure you stop her at two clutches and dont let her lay a third round as its too much. Remove the nestbox quickly at the end of the second chicks reaching fledging age and leaving the nest.
If candling the eggs dont handle them at all. Just put the torch in the nestbox and point towards you looking in at them so you can see whatever you need to without removing or handling eggs. There is never a real need to be handling or touching eggs.

Same problem. I thought she would die if she didnt eat so i was determined to get her off those eggs. i put some gloves on cuz she did bite me, and just carefully lifted her up.
