What can I do to help?
I got a new cockatiel about 3 days ago, but she isn't tamed. I have another one that is a male who is tamed and fully trusts me. But when I got him, he was already tamed, where as this new one isn't. So I don't no what I should be doing to get her trust. When I try to pick her up she flies away and panics alot. Should I just leave her, or continue to keep trying to hold her?

First thing to do: Separate your two birds when training the new cockatiel. They often get distracted by other birds in the room.

Second: Start by just putting your hand in the cage and talking to the bird at eye level (Avoid wearing intimidating clothing like hats, scarves, etc ...). Leave your hand in there for about 10 minutes. After that you will move your hand closer to the bird (if it moves away, flies away, etc .. just keep trying to get your hand closer) and just leave it there for another 5 minutes (possibly gently playing with the birds toys) and then attempt to get her on your finger by gently pushing up on the birds chest. - If that doesn't work just repeat the exercise another time. ~ The key right now is just getting it used to your hand ~ pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

NEVER grab her with your hand restricting her wings from opening. This could be very scary for a bird that is just getting aquatinted but of course later they trust you to handle them in that manner.

Try giving her spray millet every time you come to see her as well. She will be trusting if she knows you always come baring gifts;)

Hope this helped

Remember she is in a brand new environment. Give her time to get used to you and her new home. Talk to her softly, offer her treats, but take it real slow and easy until she learns to trust you.

Also your new bird may not be comfortable around your other (male) cockatiel. It takes time for birds to adjust to one another and it's best to keep them separated at first.

Pretty good Q & A on cockatiels with some info on getting a second bird:

If she is afraid, do not hold her by force. You will only make her hates you more by forcing her. While she is in the cage, feed her by holding the seeds/food/treats in your hand and be patient. How long it takes depends on how wild she is. If she has totally gone wild, then it may be a very hard process but pleas be patient. Keeps chatting with her softly while she is inside the cage. Let her get use to your presence and your voice. once she is comfortable eating from your hand/fingers, then it'll be easier for her to perform step-up to fetch her onto your finger. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Once in awhile, try to give her facial massage gently until she does not resist you massaging her anymore. The whole process of getting her to bond with you may takes a while to months or may even not bond to you ... I cannot give you an exact answer but in my opinion, you just need to be very patient in this matter and shower her with lots of love.

Something to take note when purchasing a parrot: Observe it, do not rush yourself. A parrots that eats well is usually a healthy parrot. When it is resting, the feathers should not be fluttered up. The poops should be be sticking to it's butt. A parrot that is willing to step-up to your finger, it is very easy to get it tame after you get it home. Google for more tips and facts.

Hope the above information helps. Cheers ^_^

keep trying and spend alot of time with her is the best.get her as used to you as possible then she will be more comfortable in her new home

offer her food treats and talk nicely to her, she is scared ... do things slowly and look on the internet from bird sites to help you more

keep on trying, talk to her gently everyday, also, when she is in the cage, get close to the cage slowly and talk to her quietly, and gently, and if she panics stay there, then when she calms down a bit, turn around so your back is facing her, that lets her know that when she is quiet , you will not annoy her ... also, you could get some spray millet, dangle it over your arm, and then the cocktail will want to come get the spray millet, but the only way to get to it is if it stands on your arm, so just wait for it, then when it comes onto your arm, do not move, let it eat then fly away, this lets it know that when she is on your arm or on you, then you will not hurt her and (or) annoy her, also, you could put some seeds into your hand (or spray millet seeds)

and put your hand into the cage when she is in it, and let her come and eat from you, if she freaks out, wait there for a while then soon enough when she calms down but doesn't go near you, just walk away .. i suggest you do all the other steps first before the previous one ..
