I would say a duck because when i was a little girl i had a duck and about a year later a chicken.
(We were liven on a farmyard kinda place) and the chickens are very neater and just get on but with the ducks they tend to make mess and are sometimes just sometimes quit agressive. So i would say ducks are more agressive and more messy, mine was! DAMN YOU POLLY THE DUCK !

We own six chickens and two ducks over here - and let me tell you, those ducks are the messiest, smelliest, nastiest things we've owned. They're nice pets, mind you , but they're not great. I read from a few sources that ducks, while they're young, take more interaction than you would need to supply a dog or cat with to make into a good pet. Ours don't enjoy our company or want a lot to do with us unless we're holding food cups, and even then they try to avoid being touched beyond a few strokes to their chest. I wouldn't recommend them. They can be noisy if they feel like it , and they need a large, preferably deep area to swim; otherwise, they can end up with problems with their feet that could cause them pain. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

If you still want a duck and have the proper living area for it , though, I'd only recommend a single duckling. Sure, it might like a friend for some company, but you could be the provider of that company if you kept on.: 3 With our two ducks, I found that they didn ' t want any of our attention only because one duck had the other. They didn't want anything but food from us.

I also noticed a great deal of nastier poo in our yard. It's not a nice sight. .. and the smell is just awful. They quickly turned our nice chicken coop into a mud-pen that needs constant raking to keep it from getting too unbearable.

Onnnnnn the other hand, we have chickens !:) Yes! Do your research on a good species, find a color you like, etc., but make sure you have adequate spacing. Chickens usually like to hang out together (but you can purchase them individually) but unlike ducks, I find that they are so much more individual; personality, demeanor, tempermant, most-everything wise. As odd as this sounds, I randomly wanted to see what a chicken smelled like. They keep themselves pretty darn clean, usually with the small exception of their feet (this would probably be less of an issue if we didn't have ducks), but I was truly surprised that even up close, they produced no smell at all. They even take it upon themselves to clean out weeds and pests that invade their yard. I've already planned to have chickens when I get my own house ... I love all six of my ladies! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

A few downsides to a chicken as a pet? They need special food when they're young, and then different food when they're older. If they have a yard to run around in, then you really don't have to feed them anything besides their basic egg-layer feed, but they really like to eat any organic scraps that you would normally throw out. When they get to the point of laying (especially if you have more than one hen) they will reach a peak of true vocalization; they'll let everyone know when they want the coop to themselves , and then they'll let everyone know when they laid their egg. This usually isn't a problem, but our Rhode Island reds have a tendancy to want to lay their eggs early in the morning. As you can imagine, squaking at 6 : 00 AM doesn't bode well with our family. However, seeing as our Reds are the only hens who are loud at that time, my parents are considering giving them to a friend who has chickens and a lot more space. (I recommend not getting those, if you have a smaller yard. ^ - ^ I've heard great things and terrible things about their breed, so it'd be best to stay away from it to avoid any negative experiences, I think.) pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

So, to answer your question: ducks are the dirtier pet. No doubt. I don't know how Stop Soring! does it, but apparently she's got some exceptional birds!;)

Also, just so you guys know, I was very dedicated to my animals, the ducks especially. Our second duck was the greatest little buddy, until we introduced him to the older female. Now it's like we've abused them both all their lives, which is far from the truth.): Oh well. Now all of my hens love me more.;)

Dear God, I just wrote an essay!

Ducks! They poo 50-100 times a day, they dig up your garden and eat your plants - plus they're messy eaters!

Always remember to have more than one of the same species because they get extremely lonely.
